A Friendly Talk: Walking in God's Principles The Bridge — Knowing the One We Walk With Chapter 10: Word Made Flesh
Honestly, whenever I think about God’s Word and our future with Him, this one verse just anchors my heart. It’s a verse we all know by heart, but it still carries the full, undeniable weight of God’s love. John 3:16 says:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Right there is the whole reason Jesus came. God loved us. God gave His Son. And through Jesus, we receive everlasting life and come to know the heart and character of our Heavenly Father.
Jesus isn’t just carrying a message — He is the message. He’s the One who makes the Father’s love real to us, the One who stepped directly into our world, and the One through whom we learn to live in complete surrender to the Truth.
The great “I AM” — the self‑existent, unchanging God — did not remain distant, simply declaring His love from heaven. Through His beloved and eternal Son, He made Himself known to us. In Jesus Christ, the Word became flesh so we could know God’s will, receive His grace, and be reconciled to Him.
So let’s kick back and have a friendly talk about who Jesus is, why He came, and what it means for us.
Who Jesus Is — The Word Before Time
To really understand why Jesus is called the Word, we have to rewind all the way back before creation. Jesus didn’t start His story in a manger in Bethlehem, and He didn’t begin in Mary’s womb. He is the eternal Son of God, and He literally stepped out of eternity and into the world.
John opens his Gospel with this powerful truth:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
So the Word isn’t just a message from God — the Word was with God.
Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV) says:
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
What we see didn’t come from anything already visible. Creation itself points beyond what our eyes can see to the power and authority of God.
John 1:3 (NKJV):
“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
This explains how creation happened. The “Word” — Jesus — was personally involved in creating everything. Nothing in existence was made without Him.
Colossians 1:16 (NKJV):
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible… All things were created through Him and for Him.”
This goes even deeper. Jesus didn’t just create the earth; He created the spiritual world, every authority, every power, and everything in the universe. And all of it was made for Him — He is the purpose behind creation.
Hebrews 1:2 (NKJV):
“…has in these last days spoken to us by His Son… through whom also He made the worlds.”
God used prophets before, but now He speaks through His Son — the same Son who is heir of all things and through whom the worlds were made.
1 Corinthians 8:6 (NKJV):
“Yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things… and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.”
Scripture keeps bringing us back to Jesus Christ — the Word. All things were made through Him, all things were created for Him, and through Him we live. The Word who became flesh was there before the beginning of creation.
Paul even warns us not to get caught up in empty human ideas or legalistic traditions. Instead, he points us straight back to Jesus:
“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily…” (Col. 2:9)
Every bit of God’s fullness — His wisdom, righteousness, and power — is fully present in Jesus. He is not a partial picture. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
The Word Taking Flesh — The Humility of God
Here’s the part that still blows my mind: How does the Creator step into His own creation? Not with thunder, overwhelming force, or a display of power that would terrify us. He showed up as a tiny baby.
John says:
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” (John 1:14)
Think about that. The God who made the earth, commands every star, and fills the universe — the eternal Word — became flesh and lived among us.
Matthew reminds us:
“They shall call His name Immanuel… God with us.” (Matt. 1:23)
Not God far away. Not God watching from a distance. God with us. Right in the middle of our mess, struggles, and brokenness.
Paul explains the humility behind it:
“…He made Himself of no reputation… taking the form of a servant…” (Phil. 2:7)
Jesus never stopped being God. The eternal Son became human while remaining fully divine. He chose to experience the same daily struggles, tiredness, and limitations we feel.
That’s love beyond anything we can describe.
Why Jesus Became Human — The Rescue and the Understanding
Why would the sovereign King step into flesh and blood?
1. He came to rescue us.
Hebrews says:
“…that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death…” (Heb. 2:14)
He became human so He could die in our place and break the power of death once and for all.
2. He came to share in our humanity.
Hebrews also tells us:
“We do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses…” (Heb. 4:15)
When we cry out in pain, temptation, or grief, we’re talking to a God who lived it. He felt hunger, exhaustion, betrayal, and sorrow. He isn’t a stranger to your hurt. He understands exactly what you’re going through — and He meets you right there.
The Word of God Still Speaks Today
His truth isn’t passive. The written Word carries the same authority today.
“For the word of God is living and powerful…” (Heb. 4:12)
It cuts through excuses, reaches into hidden places, brings healing, exposes what needs to be released, and strengthens our faith. It nourishes our hearts so we can grow in a real relationship with Him.
But the story doesn’t end there. One day, this same Jesus — the Word of God — will return in undeniable glory.
Revelation gives us this picture:
“He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.” (Rev. 19:13)
The same Jesus who came in humility will return in victory — Faithful and True.
Walking With the Word Made Flesh
Look at the big picture: The great I AM — the ruler of the universe — chose to reveal Himself by wrapping Word in flesh. He became vulnerable so we could know Him. He died to give us life, and He rose so we could walk in true freedom.
He’s the Lord who directs our steps and the High Priest who walks beside us through everything.
So today, let’s step away from all the endless directions around us and anchor ourselves to the living Word — Jesus Christ. He is Faithful and True. He walks with us through every step we take — and remember, walking in God’s principles means walking with Him every day.
Final Thoughts
Let's just pause and look at the big picture of what we’ve been talking about. Think about how incredible this love story really is.
Before time even existed, before a single star was formed, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus was already there, holding all of eternity in His hands. He didn’t need us — and yet, before we ever learned to love Him, He loved us first.
And then, the most mind‑blowing thing happened: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” The eternal Son stepped into His own creation and walked into our messy, broken world. He became one of us. Why? Because His heart was to be close to you and me. That’s why “They shall call His name Immanuel… God with us.” Not a distant God, but God with us — meeting us right where we are and walking with us through the storms of life.
It all anchors back to that one beautiful truth we’ve known since childhood, but can never hear enough:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
That is our reality today. Because of who He is and what He did, we can lift our heads, take a deep breath, and step forward with three absolute certainties:
We Anchor Our Hope
Because His throne lasts forever and ever, our hope is completely unshakable. The world around us may shake, kingdoms may fall, and seasons may change — but Jesus remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. When our hope is anchored in Christ, our future rests securely in His hands.
We Boldly Declare Our Belief
We believe every single word He has spoken. We believe in His sacrifice, His resurrection, and His living presence with us. He is the Alpha and the Omega — the first and the last word over our lives.
We Walk in His Victory
He has conquered death, sin, and darkness. Because He lives, our struggles do not have the final word. Whatever we face, nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So, as we finish our cup of coffee and step back into our week, remember that we are loved and cherished within His grace.
And no matter how many times it takes — yes, again and again — we get up.
We look up. We pray. And we keep moving forward.
Not chasing perfection but bringing an honest heart that loves God’s truth.
God’s desire is to help us and to hear from us. The closer we walk with Him, the further we stand from the enemy.
So, take a breath. Take a step. And trust that God’s got the rest.
And remember—God doesn't just guide us with wisdom and purpose; He also blesses us with moments of joy, laughter, and peace along the journey.

A Little Lesson in Grace 🚲
A young girl wanted a bicycle more than anything. She prayed fervently for an answer and saved every single penny of her allowance for a whole year. But when she counted it up, she had only managed to save twenty dollars.
Knowing her heart, her father took her to the local bike shop anyway. She walked right in and pointed to a spectacular, shiny new bicycle. The price tag read three hundred dollars.
The next day, she was proudly riding it down the street when her friend stopped her in amazement. "Wow!" her friend said. "How in the world did you get that incredible bike for only twenty dollars?!"
She smiled brightly and said, "I prayed and God answered me! He told me, 'Ask your daddy for the rest.' So I did!"
