Worship & Closeness

Today's Little Blessing

Today’s Little Blessing

Each “Little Blessing” gives you one simple word to focus on, a small reminder of God’s love, and a gentle encouragement to carry with you as you walk.

Worship & Closeness

Pull up a chair, grab your favorite mug, and let’s just sit together for a moment.

Usually, when I write “Today’s Little Blessing,” I try to give us one simple word to focus on—a small reminder of God’s love and a gentle encouragement to carry with us as we walk through the day. But God’s blessings are endless to describe and impossible to sum up in one word. One word simply isn’t enough to hold the joy.

Today, we are talking about the endless, beautiful loop of love that exists between us and God. Have you ever stopped to think about the difference between closeness with God and worship? I was thinking about Today’s Little Blessing word, and it clicked in the most beautiful way.

Closeness is the actual state of our relationship. It’s that quiet intimacy, the safety, the deep knowing, and the total trust we experience when we rest in a personal relationship with God. It is God’s embrace around us—a place where we can draw near to Him, knowing we are loved. Closeness gives worship something deeper than words or outward actions—it gives worship the honesty of a heart that desires to know the One we are worshiping.

Worship is the expression of that relationship. It’s the action of honoring Him with our words, our daily choices, and our entire life. It is our completely surrendered embrace back to Him—throwing our arms around our Heavenly Father out of pure gratitude and affection for who He is.

When our heart is full of honest love for Him, these two things melt together. Just like a real, tight hug between two people who love each other, you can’t tell where one embrace begins and the other ends. They happen at the exact same time, creating this beautiful, shared moment of love.

The Bible is absolutely packed with the joy of this mutual embrace! Think about Zephaniah 3:17, which tells us that “The Lord your God is with you... He will take great delight in you; He will rejoice over you with singing.” Can you picture that? Scripture gives us this beautiful picture of God rejoicing over His people with singing!

And when we experience that closeness, our natural response is worship, like Psalm 16:11: “You fill me with joy in your presence.” It brings this deep, undeniable happiness within us. Even though we can’t physically see Him right now, 1 Peter 1:8 reminds us that we love Him, believe in Him, and are “filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.”

That is the beautiful, encouraging reality of walking within God’s principles. It isn’t about rigid rules; it’s about a living, breathing personal relationship full of forgiveness and celebration.

So now, how do we live out this beautiful embrace when the coffee mug is empty and the busy day starts demanding our attention? How do we keep this embrace alive in the middle of our ordinary routines?

It’s much simpler than we think, and it’s filled with so much freedom. Before you even get out of bed, let’s take a moment and say, “I love You, my Lord and my God,” using the name that feels personal when you talk to Him, and simply breathe in His love.

Don’t ask for anything yet. Just remind yourself, “I am fully known, deeply loved, and invited to draw near to God through Jesus Christ.” Let His peace wash over you like a warm embrace to start your morning.

Worship isn’t just for Sundays; it’s a continuous expression of love filled with joy. We tightly embrace God back when we choose kind words during a stressful moment, or when we whisper a quick, “Thank You, Father, for this beautiful day,” while driving home. Your daily choices to honor Him are the sweetest embrace you can offer.

Let’s be encouraged to set a reminder on our phone once or twice a day just to pause. Step away from the noise, look up, and speak to Him just like you’re talking to someone you love. Share your honest heart—your sudden joys, your little worries, and your gratitude.

This is the rhythm of grace. It’s a continuous, beautiful dance of receiving His love and pouring it right back out to Him. It nourishes your heart and deepens your personal relationship with God.

Of course, some days we stumble. Some days we get distracted, or we make mistakes, or we forget to look up. But that is the most wonderful part of walking within God’s grace—His mercy still calls us back, and when we come to Him with an honest, repentant heart, His forgiveness is there waiting.

And no matter how many times it takes—yes, again and again—we get up.

We look up. We pray. And we keep moving forward.

He surrounds us with His perfect love, holding us close as His beloved, cherished children.

God bless.

God's grace meets us right where we are, wrapping our hearts in a love that never lets go.
